RIMOWA Revisits 1969 With the Classic Aluminium Grid Collection

rimowa

A limited release reworks the brand’s signature aluminum luggage with a geometric twist.

A New Take on an Archival Design

RIMOWA is digging into its 1969 archives for the Classic Aluminium Grid collection, introducing a fresh interpretation of its iconic aluminum cases. Instead of the familiar vertical grooves, the new design features a pressed geometric grid pattern across the shell, giving the luggage a more structured, architectural feel while still staying rooted in the brand’s industrial heritage.

Familiar Craft, Updated Details

While the exterior shifts visually, many of RIMOWA’s core elements remain unchanged. The cases retain features like the high-gloss palladium lock system, airplane-inspired rivets and a smooth telescopic handle. Inside, the grid motif continues through a quilted lining, while blue leather accents on the handles and tags reference the brand’s historical color palette.

A Limited Run Across Three Sizes

The collection is limited to 1,969 numbered pieces and includes three formats: a Hand-Carry case, a Cabin size and a larger Trunk option. Each piece is produced in Cologne and finished with an individual badge, reinforcing the release’s archival inspiration and collectible nature. The Classic Aluminium Grid collection is set to launch on March 26 through select RIMOWA stores and online.
