A contemporary longhouse designed to move in rhythm with both family life and the surrounding landscape.
Rooted in Tradition, Reimagined for Today
Note Design Studio reinterprets the classic skånelänga farmhouse with Villa Österlen, a contemporary home set within the rolling, protected landscapes of southern Sweden. The structure follows the natural terrain, using plastered stone walls and a Rheinzink roof to echo the tones of its surroundings while allowing the architecture to quietly evolve over time.
Designed for Both Gathering and Escape
The layout is carefully divided to support both communal living and private retreat, creating a natural flow between shared family spaces and more intimate zones. Large openings and a prominent skylight draw in shifting daylight, reinforcing the home’s connection to nature while subtly shaping how each space is experienced throughout the day.
Material Warmth as Atmosphere
Inside, Swedish pine, Norwegian slate, and Bohuslän granite define the material palette, chosen for both durability and environmental sensitivity. A soft, milky finish on the wood interacts with natural light to create a calm, almost sacred atmosphere, turning the interior into a sensory extension of the landscape outside.
