An all electric air taxi service prepares for passenger flights in Dubai.
A New Chapter in Urban Mobility
Uber is expanding beyond roads with the official introduction of Uber Air, developed in partnership with Joby Aviation. The all electric air taxi service aims to redefine how people move through major cities, beginning with its first passenger flights scheduled for Dubai later this year. The launch marks a significant milestone in the companies’ long standing collaboration and signals a shift toward multi modal transportation ecosystems.
Seamless Booking From Ground to Sky
Uber Air is designed to function directly within the existing Uber app. Users will be able to book an entire journey in one place, with the platform automatically coordinating ground transportation such as Uber Black rides to and from designated vertiports. The goal is a frictionless door to door experience that blends aerial travel into everyday city routines.
Electric Performance With Vertical Lift
At the heart of the service is Joby Aviation’s electric aircraft, equipped with six tilting propellers that allow for vertical takeoff and landing before transitioning smoothly into forward flight. The aircraft can reach speeds of up to 200 mph and travel approximately 100 miles on a single charge. The cabin accommodates four passengers and a certified commercial pilot, featuring expansive windows for panoramic city views. Engineered with a refined acoustic profile, the vehicle is designed to operate more quietly than traditional helicopters, integrating into urban environments with minimal disruption.
With Dubai set as its debut market, Uber Air positions itself as a bold step toward the next generation of sustainable urban transport.
