Heritage meets modernity in a restored 1930s laboratory.
A New Creative Home
Acne Studios has unveiled its new Paris headquarters, housed in a former 1930s laboratory on Rue des Petites Écuries. Conceived by creative director Jonny Johansson in collaboration with Swedish design studio Halleroed, the project strikes a balance between historical preservation and contemporary intervention.
Dialogue Between Eras
The design preserves original features such as gold-painted moldings and parquet floors, layering them with stark new insertions. At the heart of the headquarters sits a monumental pink vinyl sofa by Max Lamb, while a raw concrete showroom capped by a vaulted glass-tiled ceiling adds a bold modern counterpoint.
Johansson’s Vision
“Our main focus was to respect the history of the space while bringing in a fresh, modern energy,” notes Johansson. “The building itself has this incredible architectural presence – it’s filled with stories, and you can feel that when you walk through the rooms. We didn’t want to strip that away. Instead, we wanted to create a kind of dialogue between the past and present.”
