The café’s design flows from morning espresso to evening vintages.
A Journey Through Time of Day
NAAW Studio’s design for Six Coffee + Wine in Almaty unfolds as a progression from dawn to night, with five interconnected halls that each reflect a distinct palette, light quality, and atmosphere. Custom shutters and gradient-stained glass by artist Zhanel Shakhan filter daylight into shifting moods, while miniature vignettes hidden in the glass encourage guests to slow down and explore.
Architecture Rooted in Place
Local materials anchor the café to Almaty’s architectural history. Shell limestone from the same quarries as the city’s landmarks clads the walls, accented by marble inlays and an undulating limestone bar. Tinted terrazzo floors echo the natural flecks of stone, while a sculptural stainless-steel light fixture crowns the bar as both artwork and illumination.
Craft and Community
The interiors highlight Almaty’s creative culture through custom furnishings and artworks. Travertine tables pair with seating by Aq Objects, inspired by yurt benches, alongside playful Plopp chairs. Photography by Bauyrzhan Sabit and a felt tapestry by Dunie line gallery-style walls, while a gradient corridor designed by local brand For Walls extends the narrative, ensuring each corner of the café continues the story from morning into night.
