To celebrate 90 years of the legendary Aalto Vase, Iittala is bringing one of design’s most recognizable forms to life on a monumental scale.
A Vase Reimagined as a Walk-In Landmark
At this year’s 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen, Iittala will debut the Aalto 90 Pavilion, a seven-meter-tall installation inspired by the iconic vase created by Finnish architect and designer Alvar Aalto. Located at Ofelia Plads along the city’s waterfront, the pavilion invites visitors to step inside a larger-than-life interpretation of the celebrated silhouette, transforming a household design object into an immersive architectural experience.
Built With Innovation and Sustainability in Mind
Created by TABLEAU CPH and constructed in partnership with aluminum producer Hydro, the pavilion showcases a modern approach to material innovation. The structure is made from low-carbon aluminum profiles produced using 100% renewable energy. Its modular construction allows the installation to be easily dismantled, recycled, or transported to future destinations, reinforcing a commitment to circular design while maintaining the vase’s signature flowing curves and lightweight appearance.
Introducing the New Aalto City Vase Collection
At the center of the pavilion, Iittala will unveil the Aalto City Vase collection, a new series inspired by six cities: Berlin, Amsterdam, Tokyo, New York, Helsinki, and Copenhagen. Each vase interprets Aalto’s timeless form through colors and moods unique to its respective city. Together, the collection and pavilion create a dialogue between object and architecture, demonstrating how one of modern design’s most enduring creations continues to evolve across cultures, generations, and scales.
