The traveling exhibition spotlights craftsmanship, heritage and cross-cultural exchange.
A Global Platform for Métiers d’Art
Chanel’s La Galerie du 19M will arrive in Shanghai as its third international stop, following Dakar and Tokyo. Running from September 25 to November 15, 2026 at the Museum of Art Pudong, the exhibition will take over the entire third floor, showcasing the brand’s network of Métiers d’Art ateliers—home to over 700 artisans specializing in techniques like embroidery, pleating and featherwork.
Celebrating a Century of Lesage
At the heart of the exhibition is a major retrospective dedicated to Lesage, Chanel’s legendary embroidery house, marking its 100-year anniversary. The showcase traces the evolution of Lesage’s craftsmanship and its lasting influence on the maison’s design language, positioning embroidery as both heritage and innovation.
A Dialogue Between Cultures
Rather than presenting craftsmanship as static tradition, the Shanghai edition emphasizes exchange. Curated by a mix of French and Chinese creatives, the exhibition invites visitors into an interactive experience with workshops and public programming—bridging European savoir-faire with contemporary Chinese practices and reinforcing craft as a living, evolving art form.
