The design studio’s latest series transforms a historic symbol into sculptural, modern lighting.
A Minimalist Take on the Crown
Blue Green Works has debuted “Crown,” a striking new lighting collection that turns the iconic symbol of royalty into a study in modern minimalism. Designed by Creative Director Peter B. Staples, the series strips the crown down to its essential form — using hand-shaped glass and polished metals to explore its quiet power and timeless silhouette.
Rooted in Staples’s early interest in tattoo motifs and medieval emblems, “Crown” distills grandeur into simplicity. The four-piece collection includes three pendant variations and one flush mount fixture, each blending clean geometry with purposeful light direction. Upward glows and downward beams give the fixtures a presence that’s both sculptural and functional.
Bridging Craft, Culture, and Modern Form
Building on the studio’s earlier “Palm” series, “Crown” extends Blue Green Works’ fascination with materials, light, and organic form. Radiating glass petals and polished cores evoke a sense of movement and structure, drawing inspiration from Modernist designers like Pierre Paulin while remaining rooted in contemporary craft.
All pieces are handmade by expert artisans in the Pacific Northwest, showcasing the studio’s commitment to detail and restraint. The result is a collection that sits comfortably between eras — both familiar and forward-looking, ceremonial and quietly bold.
The “Crown” collection is now available through Blue Green Works’ website, as well as through SCP in London and Triode in Paris.
