Retro patterns, rich textures, and mid-century flair breathe new life into Casa VDS in Conca D’Oro.
A Nostalgic Transformation in the Heart of Rome
Roman design duo 02A Studio has unveiled their latest project—an eye-catching renovation of a 20th-century apartment in the Conca D’Oro neighborhood. Their aim? Reintroduce the 1960s spirit into the space, using bold design choices and period-accurate materials that nod to the building’s roots.
Original terrazzo floors run throughout the home, setting the tone from the moment you enter. The vestibule makes a statement with its retro geometric wallpaper and distinctive red polygonal doorways, flanked by reeded glass portals. It acts as a visual anchor and main thoroughfare, connecting each space with style and intent.
Layers of Light, Texture and Color
Natural light pours into the main living area, where continuous curtain tracks and pinch-pleated drapes highlight the unit’s wavy facade. Cool cerulean walls and warm wood paneling provide a grounded backdrop for a curated mix of modernist furniture, colorful upholstery, and a hi-fi sound system that feels right at home. Across rooms, built-in joinery maintains a balance between functionality and minimalist appeal, contrasting nicely with crisp white walls and polished surfaces.
Bold Bathrooms with Personality
The designers leaned fully into color and shape when it came to the bathrooms. Each has its own identity: one suite is dressed in soft blue tiles with bold red cabinetry, rounded mirrors, and globe-like sconces. The second bathroom turns up the warmth with red-orange subway tiles, striped yellow curtains, and a moody black-tiled shower that feels both playful and dramatic.
