The Maze NYC Rethinks Nightlife Through a Sober Lens

A new members club in Chelsea proves that connection and energy do not need alcohol.

A New Kind of Third Place

Located in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, The Maze is an alcohol free members club designed for social connection, work, and relaxation without spirits. Created by Opa Architects and Laube Studio, the 4600 square foot space positions itself as a modern third place for New Yorkers seeking community through wellness focused experiences rather than traditional nightlife.

A Non Linear Space Built for Interaction

True to its name, The Maze features a deliberately non linear layout inspired by European bistros and social clubs. The design encourages movement and discovery, blending communal lounges, co working pods, and an adaptable dining room that functions as a café, restaurant, and workspace. Crafted Hospitality, led by Tom Colicchio, oversees the food program, anchoring the space with an all day culinary offering.

Design Details and the Apothecary Bar

The interiors balance warmth and refinement through mosaic tiled surfaces, green stone, wood flooring, and plush textiles from Pierre Frey. Arches and symmetrical lines guide guests through the space, while lighting shifts from soft daylight to amber evening tones. At the heart of the club sits the Apothecary Bar, a sculptural installation made from reclaimed stone where complex non alcoholic drinks are crafted using botanicals, adaptogens, and dealcoholized wines. With added amenities like a sensory library and soundproof work pods, The Maze challenges the idea that nightlife must revolve around alcohol to feel vibrant and elevated.
