Ferréol Babin Debuts “Polyshape” Lamp Collection for Cassina

The French designer brings clean geometry and playful functionality to his first piece for the Italian design house.

A New Direction for Babin

French designer Ferréol Babin has officially joined the Cassina roster with Polyshape, a sleek two-piece lighting collection available as both a tabletop and floor lamp. Best known for his hand-carved, organic wooden forms, Babin steps into a new visual language here — one defined by clean lines, crisp metal finishes, and geometric balance.

Both lamps in the collection are designed with everyday use in mind. A built-in dimmable LED reading light can be adjusted via a tactile spherical switch on the base. On the floor model, that same switch also controls a second light source positioned at the top of the structure, casting a diffused, ambient glow.

Built from Stacked Forms

The design takes its inspiration from the idea of stacking basic geometric shapes. A cylindrical base supports a rectangular stem and angular head, creating a balanced silhouette that feels modern but not sterile. Each lamp is crafted from metal and finished in one of four colors: grey, blue, red, or green.

This marks a new chapter for Babin and a bold first step into Cassina’s world of refined Italian design.

Part of Cassina’s Patronage Program

Polyshape was developed under Cassina’s Patronage program, an initiative aimed at supporting emerging designers through hands-on collaboration and international exposure. According to creative director Patricia Urquiola, the program is about more than just making products — it’s about launching voices. “We give [young designers] the opportunity not only to design a piece for us but also to exhibit it in a show or project which we then promote on the world stage,” she explained in a recent interview.

The Polyshape collection is available now through Cassina.
