Bentley is about to prove that luxury doesn’t require a three-ton curb weight. The British carmaker, long synonymous with hand-stitched leather and V12 thunder, is preparing to launch its first true urban-focused Bentley electric SUV, a significantly more compact proposition than the Bentayga that’s dominated the segment since 2015. The model will arrive with an official name before the year wraps, setting the stage for a full debut well within 2026, according to recent reports.
The unnamed compact crossover slots into a newly vulnerable gap in Bentley’s lineup. While the Bentayga remains the brand’s heavyweight champion, capable of swallowing seven figures in the right configuration, this smaller sibling will target a different beast entirely: the urban dweller who wants Bentley prestige but doesn’t need, or want, the footprint of a Range Rover. Think European city centers, Manhattan side streets, and the sort of buyer who’s grown weary of parallel-parking fantasies. By going fully electric from the ground up, Bentley sidesteps the engineering compromises that plague legacy automakers retrofitting battery packs into gas-platform shells. The move also signals genuine commitment to the brand’s broader electrification roadmap, which has already produced the all-electric Flying Spur sedan and the upcoming EXP 100 GT concept car.
The timing matters. Bentley naming this machine before full reveal suggests confidence in both design direction and market readiness. The luxury EV segment has already proven itself viable, with Mercedes EQS, BMW iX M60, and Range Rover’s electric play all establishing that high-net-worth buyers are ready to go electric. For Bentley, this compact electric SUV represents not just a new model, but a statement that the brand’s future runs on batteries, not V12s.
