Acne Studios Launches Striking New Three-Story Flagship in Tokyo

Acne Studios

Aoyama district welcomes a new artistic retail experience blending brutalist design with Japanese craftsmanship.

Swedish fashion house Acne Studios has unveiled its stunning new three-story flagship store in Tokyo’s stylish Aoyama district. Designed in collaboration with creative director Jonny Johansson and Stockholm’s Halleroed architecture studio, the store offers more than shopping — it’s an immersive journey inspired by Tokyo’s dense, layered urban environment and the brand’s deep connection to Japan.

A Unique Blend of Brutalism and Minimalism

Situated directly across from the iconic Prada Aoyama flagship, Acne Studios’ new location showcases tactile and visual contrasts throughout its interior. Signature pink granite covers the walls, floors, and select furnishings, creating a cohesive and distinctive atmosphere. Seating by designer Max Lamb features woven textiles paired with high-gloss pink patent leather, balancing softness with shine. Custom lighting by Benoit Lalloz adds rhythmic illumination, while British artist Daniel Silver contributes expressive sculptural mannequins that bring an artistic edge to the space.

Celebrating Japanese Craftsmanship and Art

Highlighting the brand’s commitment to creativity, Acne Studios collaborated with Japanese ceramicist Takuro Kuwata for this opening. Kuwata’s vibrant ceramic objects are showcased in the store, alongside a limited-edition capsule collection that reinterprets Acne Studios pieces—including exclusive denim—available only at the Aoyama flagship. This partnership reflects a dedication to recontextualization and artistic dialogue.

A Complete Fashion Destination

The flagship houses the full range of Acne Studios’ menswear and womenswear collections, along with accessories, bags, shoes, and eyewear. This bold new store strengthens Acne Studios’ presence in Tokyo, emphasizing the city’s importance as a global fashion hub and offering a physical space where the brand’s creative vision comes to life.
