Eestudio kmmk’s Winkelhaus is designed to frame the surrounding forest and valley as part of everyday living.
A Home Designed Around the Landscape
Winkelhaus, designed by estudio kmmk, is a single family residence located in Winkel, Switzerland. Completed in 2026, the home spans 643 square meters and represents the studio’s first project in the country.
The architecture is shaped by its natural surroundings. The structure forms a gentle curved arc that directs the main living spaces toward sweeping valley views while shielding the home from the nearby street. This layout creates a sequence of rooms that follow the hillside, allowing daily life inside the house to remain closely connected to the surrounding landscape.
Concrete and Glass Frame the Natural Environment
The exterior design combines exposed concrete with large areas of glazing that open the home toward the forest and valley. These expansive windows allow natural light to flow through the interior while visually extending the living spaces outward into the landscape.
The orientation of the house also creates smooth transitions between interior and exterior environments. The design emphasizes sustainability and careful craftsmanship, reflecting a contemporary architectural approach that prioritizes harmony with nature.
Minimal Interiors That Highlight the Views
Inside the house, the atmosphere shifts to a calm and restrained aesthetic. A soft palette of white washed wood, plaster walls and light flooring creates a minimal environment that draws attention toward the views outside.
High quality finishes and fixtures from brands such as Dornbracht, Miele, BWB, Huber Fenster AG, Senso and Wever and Ducré reinforce the project’s attention to detail. The result is a residence that balances architectural precision with a strong connection to the natural landscape.
