A New Look Inside W New York Union Square

Rockwell Group reshapes a historic hotel into a bold and immersive design experience.

Honoring History Through Modern Design

The newly reopened W New York Union Square has been completely reimagined by Rockwell Group, drawing inspiration from its location inside the historic Guardian Life building and the creative pulse of Union Square Park. The redesign brings together the building’s Beaux Arts heritage with a contemporary sensibility, creating spaces that feel energetic, layered, and deeply connected to their surroundings.

A Lobby Defined by Contrast and Movement

The lobby serves as the heart of the transformation, where original marble floors and an ornate ceiling have been carefully preserved and set against striking modern elements. At the center of the space is a dramatic sculptural staircase that acts as both a functional feature and a visual statement. Its flowing form and layered materials introduce a sense of motion while guiding guests through the hotel’s social spaces.

Guestrooms and Social Spaces Reimagined

Guestrooms and suites balance comfort with character through custom furnishings, rich textiles, and curated artwork inspired by Union Square’s artistic spirit. Soft surfaces contrast with exposed architectural details, reflecting the city’s blend of tradition and innovation. Public areas, including the restaurant and bar, are designed as immersive environments that encourage connection and creativity, positioning the hotel as a renewed cultural landmark rooted in New York’s past and present.
