A Disused London Fire Station Becomes a Design Hub

london

Max Radford Gallery and Ercol spotlight emerging talent at Clerkenwell Fire Station for London Design Festival.

Grain Pile Exhibition

As part of London Design Festival, Max Radford Gallery and Ercol present “Grain Pile,” a collaborative show featuring six designers: Andu Masebo, Eddie Olin, Joe Armitage, Jaclyn Pappalardo, Isabel Alonso, and Lewis Kemmenoe. Each worked with Ercol’s materials and factories to craft new pieces, ranging from upcycled stools to marquetry rocking chairs and sculptural tables.

Creativity in Context

Hosted in a disused fire station, the exhibition highlights how unconventional spaces can amplify design. Masebo reimagined Ercol’s defective parts into bold stools, Alonso crafted geometric low tables, while Armitage looked to London’s modernist architecture for inspiration. Pappalardo’s nostalgic cabinet stood apart as the only non-seating piece.

Supporting Emerging Talent

For Radford, the project represents the importance of the UK design industry nurturing homegrown talent. Ercol’s Henry Tadros echoed this, framing the collaboration as both an inspiration and a platform for designers to bring fresh ideas to life.

Grain Pile runs through September 21 as part of the London Design Festival.
