Godzilla evolves without abandoning its roots.
A New Chapter for the GT-R
Nissan has confirmed that the next-generation R36 GT-R is in development, with an expected arrival before 2030. Following the end of the R35’s long run, the upcoming model marks a major shift for the brand’s flagship performance car while still staying true to what made it iconic.
Hybrid Power, Familiar Foundation
Instead of going fully electric, Nissan is building the R36 around a hybrid setup that retains the legendary VR38 twin-turbo V6 engine block. While core components like the heads and internals will be heavily reworked, keeping the block reflects how respected it is for durability and tuning potential. The electrification element will help boost performance while also meeting stricter global emissions standards.
Built for the Future, Tuned for the Track
The R36 will sit on an entirely new chassis and is being developed as a true global model, capable of meeting regulations like Euro 7. Even with the shift toward hybrid tech, Nissan is keeping its focus on performance, with Nürburgring-level development still central to the car’s DNA. More concrete details are expected around 2028.
