Mous Lamrabat’s Moustalgia Exhibition Blends 1990s Pop Culture with North African Identity

1990

A colorful fusion of nostalgia, humor, and cultural heritage brought to life through Mous Lamrabat’s lens.

A Celebration of Global Culture

Belgian-Moroccan photographer Mous Lamrabat unveils his new exhibition “Moustalgia” in collaboration with WePresent, launching November 7. The show pays tribute to the defining pop culture of the 1990s — from MTV to boybands — while weaving in the rich aesthetics of North Africa and the Middle East. The result is a vivid visual conversation between eras, icons, and identities.

Reimagining Nostalgia Through a Cross-Cultural Lens

Known for his playful and thought-provoking imagery, Lamrabat uses “Moustalgia” to explore his bicultural roots and the humor found in merging worlds that rarely intersect. Shot primarily in Senegal, the series transforms traditional garments and symbols into expressions of modern creativity, framed through the bright, rebellious tones of 1990s pop imagery.

“Moustalgia” will debut at Protein Studios in Shoreditch, London, with public viewings on November 8 and 9, before moving to Faces Gallery in Marseille later in the month. The exhibition will also be available to explore online, inviting audiences everywhere to experience Lamrabat’s celebration of cultural hybridity and the joyful nostalgia of a global generation.
