Art Basel’s new initiative puts digital and new media art at the forefront of its ongoing Miami Beach edition.
Reimagining Digital Art at Art Basel
Art Basel Miami has introduced Zero 10, a groundbreaking digital and new media art section curated by Eli Scheinman. Featuring 12 international exhibitors, the initiative highlights works ranging from generative art, robotics, and 3D printing to light-based projects. Zero 10’s debut represents a shift in how collectors and institutions engage with new media, and it will also appear at Art Basel’s Hong Kong and Basel fairs in 2026.
Challenging Expectations
Scheinman emphasizes that digital art extends beyond large screens and video installations. Highlights include Joe Pease’s piece at Nguyen Wahed, Ix Shells’ “No Me Olvides” at Fellowship, and Maya Man’s data-driven Depop project with bitforms. Zero 10 seeks to showcase works that combine physical presence with digital innovation, amplifying artists and galleries pushing the boundaries of the medium.
Building a Digital Ecosystem
Named after Kazimir Malevich’s 1915 exhibition 0,10, Zero 10 embodies a spirit of reinvention, positioning digital art as a natural extension of contemporary practice. From Beeple’s “Regular Animals” to Mario Klingemann’s generative display with Onkaos, the section emphasizes material experimentation and cultural impact. Scheinman’s journey from political ecology to tech-forward art initiatives informs the curatorial vision, ensuring that the section nurtures a growing, collaborative ecosystem for digital art.
