A new cultural landmark in Abu Dhabi brings the UAE’s past to life through multi-sensory storytelling.
A Museum Rooted in Experience
Zayed National Museum has opened in Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Cultural District, positioning itself as a major educational and cultural hub. Designed by Foster + Partners, the space is organized around six permanent galleries that trace the UAE’s history from ancient times to the present, offering a comprehensive look at the region’s heritage.
Technology Meets Cultural Narrative
Rather than simply displaying artifacts, the museum integrates interactive technology throughout the experience. Audiovisual installations, large-scale screens and ambient soundscapes work together to connect each gallery, creating a more immersive journey. These elements sit alongside archaeological objects and archival works, allowing visitors to engage with both the stories and the physical materials of the region.
From Ancient Trade to Living Heritage
One of the standout features is the 18-meter Magan Boat, displayed in the central atrium. Reconstructed through a collaboration between Zayed University and NYU Abu Dhabi, it highlights the UAE’s early trade history and the importance of preserving traditional knowledge. Extending beyond the interior, a 600-meter garden further expands the experience, tying together history, landscape and contemporary design.
