Built on an add lightness philosophy, the British startup is challenging what an electric sports car can be.
A Featherweight Vision for the Electric Era
In a market crowded with heavy battery driven vehicles, Longbow is taking a radically different approach. Founded by veterans from Tesla, Lucid, and Lotus, the British startup has unveiled the Speedster, a production ready electric sports car that introduces what the brand calls a Featherweight Electric Vehicle. Emerging from London’s Brixton district, the Speedster is designed to prioritize balance, agility, and driver engagement rather than sheer battery mass.
Engineering Lightness Back Into Performance
Weighing just 1,970 pounds, the Speedster is dramatically lighter than most modern performance cars, including many combustion engine sports cars. Despite its minimal mass, it delivers a claimed 275 mile WLTP range and accelerates from zero to sixty two miles per hour in 3.5 seconds. This performance is made possible by a bespoke aluminum chassis and a pragmatic engineering strategy that relies on proven off the shelf motors and batteries. By avoiding years of proprietary development, Longbow moved from concept sketch to functional demonstrator in just six months.
Limited Production With Broader Ambitions
Each Longbow Speedster will be hand built in the United Kingdom, with production capped at 150 examples and pricing set around 111,500 US dollars. While the Speedster serves as a statement of intent, the company plans to follow it with a more accessible Roadster model aimed at higher volume production. In doing so, Longbow positions itself as a brand proving that the electric future can still be light, responsive, and deeply engaging.
