The Last Dinner Party is entering a bold new era. The five-piece baroque-pop band has officially announced its highly anticipated sophomore album, From The Pyre, set for release on October 17 via Island Records. Along with the announcement, the group dropped its lead single, “This Is the Killer Speaking” — a track that blends their signature theatrical style with jaunty, country-tinged energy.
A Glimpse Into the Next Chapter
Fans may already recognize the single — the band first debuted it live in June 2024 at Prague’s Metronome Festival, later performing it at Glastonbury and other major shows over the past year. The title was finally confirmed during their Pinkpop Festival set in June.
From The Pyre follows the band’s debut album Prelude to Ecstasy (2024), which not only topped the U.K. Albums Chart but also earned the biggest opening week for a debut by a British band since 2015. This time, The Last Dinner Party teamed up with producer Markus Dravs (known for his work with Wolf Alice and Florence + The Machine) to bring their dark, mythic vision to life.
What to Expect From From The Pyre
In a press statement, the band described the record as “a collection of stories bound together by the concept of album-as-mythos.” They explained:
“‘The Pyre’ is an allegorical place where these tales originate — a space of violence and destruction, but also regeneration, passion, and light. The songs are character-driven but deeply personal, turning everyday experiences into heightened narratives. Being ghosted becomes a Western dance with a killer, and heartbreak laughs into the face of the apocalypse.”
The lyrics promise vivid imagery — rifles, scythes, cowboys, Joan of Arc, and blazing infernos — reflecting a darker, more raw tone than their debut. “This record feels more earthy,” they said. “It’s like looking out at a sublime landscape instead of sitting at an opulent table.”
