Daft Punk’s “Contact” Gets a Cosmic Animated Video

The 2013 Random Access Memories track blasts off in a new visual journey through space, tying into Fortnite’s latest Daft Punk Experience.

A Visual Voyage Through Space

As part of their collaboration with Fortnite, Daft Punk has released a new animated video for “Contact,” the epic closer from their 2013 Grammy-winning album Random Access Memories. The clip channels imagery from Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem, the 2003 anime companion to their 2001 album Discovery, sending the duo’s iconic robot avatars careening through cosmic landscapes.

Shortened Track, Expanded Experience

This new video trims the song to four minutes and 48 seconds from the original six-minute-plus version, creating a punchy, immersive experience. The animation was produced by Epic Games and Magnopus, and is part of the Daft Punk Experience within Fortnite, which launched in September. The interactive in-game experience includes 31 tracks from the duo’s catalog, mashup creation, avatar dancing at the “Daft Club,” and even Lego-inspired music video tools.

A Historic DJ Set Foreshadowing the Video

Adding to the excitement, Thomas Bangalter performed “Contact” during his October set at Because Beaubourg in Paris — his first public DJ performance in 16 years. Joined by Ed Banger founder Busy P, Erol Alkan, and Fred again.., the set teased the duo’s latest visual project and celebrated Daft Punk’s enduring influence on electronic music and pop culture.
