Over 50 immersive installations and interactive experiences bring a new dimension to contemporary art in Kyoto.
A Vast Creative Playground
teamLab has unveiled its latest permanent museum, Universe of Existence, Universe of Perception: teamLab Biovortex Kyoto, in Minami-ku. Spanning more than 10,000 square meters, it marks the largest exhibition space the collective has ever opened in Japan. As part of the Kyoto Station Southeast Area Project, the museum is designed to merge art, technology, and interactivity on an unprecedented scale.
Immersive Works and First-Time Exhibitions
The museum houses over 50 artworks, ranging from familiar teamLab favorites to entirely new creations. Among the highlights is “Massless Amorphous Sculpture,” a piece never before shown in Japan, which explores the concept of “Environmental Phenomena” — art shaped by its surrounding space. Visitors can also engage with newly unveiled installations such as “Megaliths” and “Transient Abstract Life and Return,” which continue teamLab’s signature exploration of perception, space, and the human experience.
Interactive Experiences and Co-Creation
Beyond its exhibitions, Biovortex Kyoto offers a variety of educational and interactive programs. “Athletics Forest” provides a multi-dimensional space where movement influences time, encouraging physical engagement and creative play. “Future Park” invites collaborative creation, letting visitors shape the environment together. Sketch Factory allows participants to transform their drawings from Graffiti Nature and Sketch Ocean into custom merchandise, including badges, magnets, puzzles, T-shirts, and tote bags, creating a tangible connection between imagination and reality.
Through this ambitious project, teamLab supports Kyoto City’s vision for urban development, focusing on culture, art, and youth engagement. Biovortex Kyoto is positioned to be a hub for creativity and innovation, inspiring visitors to explore, interact, and co-create. Tickets are available now via the official website.
