The cult favorite returns on June 25 with a reworked build that updates one of Nike’s most unconventional silhouettes.
A Familiar Shape With A More Structured Feel
Nike is bringing back the Air Rift 2 “Kenya” on June 25, reintroducing the split-toe silhouette first released in 2002. While the signature forefoot division remains intact, the updated model arrives with a noticeably more substantial construction throughout.
Unlike many retro releases that simply replicate the original, the Air Rift 2 evolves the design with a fuller shape and a bootie-style interior that wraps the foot more securely. The split toe continues through the outsole itself, preserving the functional DNA that made the silhouette unique in the first place.
Updated Geometry Defines The New Model
The most obvious change comes underfoot. A thicker, more sculpted sole gives the Air Rift 2 greater stability and a chunkier stance than its predecessor. The added height shifts the shoe toward a more contemporary aesthetic while maintaining the minimalist spirit that inspired the original.
Textured side paneling introduces another layer of early-2000s nostalgia. The pocked surfaces reference Nike’s experimental women’s designs from the era, adding depth to the Black and Team Dark Green upper. Fire Red accents provide subtle contrast without overwhelming the shoe’s understated palette.
Rooted In Kenyan Running Heritage
The “Kenya” nickname nods to the origins of the Air Rift line. The original silhouette was inspired by the barefoot running mechanics of Kenyan distance runners, whose natural stride informed the split-toe concept. That connection remains central to the Air Rift 2, even as the shoe embraces a more modern construction.
Priced at $125 USD, the Nike Air Rift 2 “Kenya” releases on June 25 through SNKRS. With its combination of archival design and contemporary updates, the return offers a fresh take on one of Nike’s most unconventional creations.
