All 126 images from the seminal series will be shown in full for the first time in the UK.

The Exhibition

Gagosian’s Davies Street gallery will present The Ballad of Sexual Dependency from January 13 through March 21, 2026. The presentation assembles all 126 photographs from Nan Goldin’s landmark project, marking the first UK showing of the series in its entirety and coinciding with the 40th anniversary of its original publication.

The Work

Created between 1973 and 1986, The Ballad of Sexual Dependency reads like a visual diary of downtown New York life. Goldin’s images document intimate scenes from bars, clubs and private spaces, tracing relationships, desire and community with an unvarnished honesty that helped redefine documentary photography and contemporary art.

Viewing Information

The Davies Street presentation offers London audiences an opportunity to experience the full sweep of the series as a cultural record of a lost generation. The show runs January 13 to March 21, 2026, while other presentations of Goldin’s moving image work will continue to appear internationally during the same period.
