Exploring movement, form, and perception through six dynamic new works.
Painting Meets Sculpture
Meguru Yamaguchi’s AWAKENINGS exhibition at ISETAN THE SPACE in Tokyo transforms his signature painterly language into three-dimensional forms. Known for liberating brushstrokes from the flatness of canvas, Yamaguchi carves painted shapes that extend into the surrounding space, inviting viewers to engage from multiple angles.
Highlights of the Exhibition
The centerpiece, AWAKENINGS NO.2 (2025), is a large-scale acrylic work enhanced with UV and epoxy resin and finished with a UV urethane coating, blending painting with low-relief sculpture. Other standout pieces include MÖBIUS NO.24 (2025) and OUT OF BOUNDS NO.196 (2025), all showcasing layered surfaces, meticulous craftsmanship, and polished finishes.
An Immersive Artistic Experience
The six works together explore surface, form, and spatial perception, evoking the sensation of movement and inviting viewers to feel and remember motion through material. The exhibition runs through November 3, 2025, and features merchandise from GOLDWOOD ARTWORKS, Yamaguchi’s art collective.
