Lizzo Opens Up About the Darkest Time of Her Life
In a raw new interview with Women’s Health, Lizzo reveals just how heavy things got after she was hit with multiple lawsuits in 2023. From legal battles to public backlash, the pressure sent her into a deep depression—and she admits she completely shut down. “I wasn’t even talking to my therapist,” she said. “I pushed everyone away.”
The Turning Point Came at a Beyoncé Show
Despite her fears of being judged by the crowd, Lizzo decided to attend Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour. She was anxious that people would boo her or call her out—but instead, she was met with kindness and support from fans around her. That moment, she says, changed everything.
“It made me feel like, ‘Wow, maybe I don’t want to die. Life is worth living,’” she shared. “That was the kick-starter to me being like, ‘OK, Melissa, get your ass in gear and take your f–king life back.’”
A New Chapter: Wellness, Clarity, and Healing
Since that moment, Lizzo has been on a focused journey of healing—mentally, emotionally, and physically. She’s back to working out, eating better, reconnecting with her inner circle, and prepping to release her new album, Love in Real Life. Even through the ongoing legal challenges, she’s reclaiming her sense of self and purpose.
Beyoncé’s Music Helped Light the Way
Lizzo credits Beyoncé’s music—and the personal shoutout she received during “Break My Soul (Queens Remix)”—as a major source of inspiration.
“In that moment I was thinking about baby me, listening to Happy Face by Destiny’s Child and crying myself to sleep because of bullies,” she wrote on Instagram. “It’s an honor. Thank you, @beyonce.”
