A Festival Highlight: Summer for the City

Lincoln Center’s Summer for the City Festival returns with an exciting lineup of free and pay-what-you-can events, bringing vibrant cultural experiences to New Yorkers of all ages. For the 2025 season, Lincoln Center Editions commissioned artist Lilian Martinez to create a limited-edition print that embodies the festival’s joyful and inclusive spirit.

About the Artist: Lilian Martinez

Born in Chicago, Lilian Martinez is renowned for her bold use of color and graphic style, blending influences from 20th-century Color Field painting with contemporary narratives. Her work centers brown bodies and reimagines traditional genres like portraiture and still life, creating powerful reflections on identity and culture.

The Artwork: Calla Lily Dancer

Martinez’s Calla Lily Dancer (2025) features a dancing woman holding a trumpet and a coconut drink, surrounded by architectural and tropical motifs. The piece explores themes of strength, nourishment, and safety through symbolic elements like calla lilies and candles. Produced in a limited edition of 36 archival pigment prints, it perfectly captures the energy and joy of Lincoln Center’s summer festival.
