Lee Moriarty Unmasks a Softer Side of Luchadores in Balance

balance

An intimate look at pro wrestlers beyond the spectacle of the ring.

From the Ring to the Gallery

After making waves at NADA Miami last winter, Lee Moriarty debuts his first solo exhibition, Balance, opening September 27 at Night Gallery. Curated by Adam Abdalla, the eight-piece show shifts the lens from lucha libre’s high-flying theatrics to the quiet, unguarded lives of luchadores outside the spotlight.

Identity and Duality

Drawing from his own wrestling career and training in Mexico’s technical llave style, Moriarty explores the complexities of performance and persona. Balance leans into the tension between strength and vulnerability, armor and exposure—challenging the binary of hero and villain that often defines professional wrestling.

A Tender Perspective

Through this body of work, Moriarty reframes wrestlers not as untouchable icons but as layered individuals, caught between spectacle and self. The result is an unexpectedly tender portrayal, highlighting the duality of lives lived both in and out of the mask. Balance will be on view from September 17 through October 18 in Night Gallery’s Chapel Viewing Room.
