Blending 1950s space-age charm with cutting-edge electric innovation.
A Cosmic Design Inspired By The Jet Age
GM China has revealed the Buick Electra Orbit, a striking electric vehicle concept that channels the romance and bold shapes of 1950s space-age design. Created by the GM China Advanced Design Center, the Electra Orbit draws from Buick’s storied past and futuristic spacecraft aesthetics to deliver a nearly six-meter-long EV with dramatic sculptural fenders, 24-inch wheels, and eye-catching scissor doors.
The sleek exterior features aerodynamic touches including deployable drag-reduction devices and a dual-opening front trunk with custom luggage — merging style with function in true space-age fashion.
Inside The Electra Orbit: Retro Meets Tech
The cabin embraces a 2+2 layout filled with luxurious details inspired by retro-futurism. A full-width “Ring” digital display stretches from pillar to pillar, adapting between driver-focused and autonomous modes. At its core sits a wormhole-inspired AI assistant alongside a spherical console controller, enhancing the futuristic driving experience.
Warm red clay tones, crystal accents, custom brocade patterns, and a unique “Digital Illusion Carpet” blend craftsmanship with cosmic elegance, wrapping occupants in comfort and style.
A Vision For Buick’s Electric Future
Finished in a custom metallic shade called “Space,” the Electra Orbit is more than just a concept—it’s a statement. According to Stuart Norris, GM China’s VP of Design, this vehicle shows how bold design and new technologies can come together authentically. While it remains a design exploration, the Electra Orbit hints at Buick’s evolving EV identity that honors heritage while looking boldly forward.
