An immersive exhibition revisits Los Angeles through Andy Warhol’s lens.
Warhol’s Vision of the City of Angels
Dover Street Market Los Angeles has partnered with The Andy Warhol Foundation to unveil Andy WarhoLA, a new exhibition timed to coincide with Frieze Los Angeles. Curated by Michael Dayton Hermann, the showcase explores Warhol’s enduring fascination with Los Angeles, reframing the city’s mythology through his singular perspective.
The exhibition presents the sprawling metropolis as Warhol experienced it, capturing its architecture, celebrity culture, and everyday street life in a visual narrative that blurs the line between commerce and art.
Over 100 Vintage Photographs and Rare Archives
At the heart of the installation are more than 100 projected landscape photographs, many previously unpublished. These original vintage images document sun drenched boulevards, iconic buildings, and fleeting moments that shaped the cultural identity of Los Angeles. A sculptural homage to the Brillo Box anchors the space, reinforcing Warhol’s ongoing dialogue between consumer goods and celebrity spectacle.
Drawn directly from The Andy Warhol Foundation’s archives, the exhibition also features items from the artist’s personal collection, including books, t shirts, and photographs. Together, they offer a more intimate glimpse into his creative world.
Supporting Contemporary Art
Proceeds from the sale of selected works will benefit The Andy Warhol Foundation, which distributes approximately $18 million USD annually in grants supporting experimental and under recognized contemporary visual arts. Andy WarhoLA will be on view at Dover Street Market Los Angeles from February 26 through March 12, inviting visitors to experience the city through Warhol’s expansive and cinematic gaze.
