Doja Cat Talks Exes, Love-Bombing, and Teaming Up With Jack Antonoff on New Album Vie

The rapper’s upcoming project arrives this September with fresh sounds and new perspectives.

Creating Vie

In a new interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Doja Cat shared that her forthcoming album Vie has been a chance to explore new creative territory. For the first time, she’s working with producer Jack Antonoff, whose signature pop style has shaped hits for artists like Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter. Doja says the collaboration felt natural and playful, allowing her to experiment with her voice in unconventional ways, including moments where she lets loose with raw, shrieking vocals.

Personal Reflections

Beyond the music, Doja revealed that therapy and self-reflection shaped much of the album’s content. She opened up about relationships that inspired her to write about themes of naivety and love-bombing — the act of overwhelming someone with affection and gifts early on. While acknowledging that not everyone does it intentionally, she found it to be an interesting and relatable subject to explore in her lyrics.

What’s Next

Vie, described by Doja as her most pop-driven work yet, will arrive on September 26. Alongside the interview, she also dropped the album’s lead single Jealous Type, giving fans their first preview of what’s to come after her 2023 record Scarlet.
