Christina Aguilera Shines at ‘Burlesque the Musical’ in London

Burlesque

Christina Aguilera is all about the Burlesque life — again! The pop icon, 44, made a special appearance at Burlesque the Musical on Saturday (July 19) at London’s Savoy Theatre, where she couldn’t hide her excitement for the stage adaptation of the 2010 film she famously starred in alongside Cher.

Christina’s Five-Star Reaction

On Instagram, Aguilera shared a glowing review of the show with a short clip of her cheering from the audience, set to her own hit “Show Me How You Burlesque” from the original soundtrack. “BLOWN AWAY!!!” she captioned the video, adding, “My review of Burlesque the Musical,” along with five stars.

The clip, which shows Aguilera smiling and clapping as scenes from the performance flash across the screen, is especially meaningful as she serves as an executive producer of the new musical.

A Star-Studded Night at the Theatre

The production’s social media accounts also shared moments from Aguilera’s night, including footage of her arriving in a sheer black outfit and greeting fans. Director Steven Antin — who created the original film and the musical — called the evening unforgettable. “What it is like to have a goddess in your life,” Antin wrote on Instagram, thanking Aguilera for her support: “Unbelievable night with @xtina [heart emoji].”

From Film to Stage

For longtime fans, Burlesque holds a special place in Aguilera’s career. The 2010 film was her first leading role, with Cher playing Tess Scali, the glamorous nightclub owner who gives Aguilera’s character — the ambitious Ali Marilyn — a shot at stardom.

The original soundtrack, featuring powerhouse tracks from Aguilera and songs by Sia, Diane Warren, Linda Perry, Ron Fair, and Tricky Stewart, climbed to No. 18 on the Billboard 200 upon its release.

Burlesque the Musical Takes Over London

Following a world premiere at Manchester Opera House in June, Burlesque the Musical is now lighting up London’s West End at the Savoy Theatre through early September. The stage show includes beloved hits from the film as well as fresh tracks written by Todrick Hall and Jess Folley.

Earlier this year, Aguilera shared her pride in the project:

“I’m proud that Burlesque the Musical is coming to London’s West End! Our journey of making this film to bringing this show to the stage has been so special and exciting. Following our successful previews, having the show land in the West End later this year is a dream come true!”
