PUMA x BMW M Motorsport capsule celebrates art, racing, and immersive experiences.
Overview
To mark the 50th anniversary of BMW’s Art Car series, the brand teamed up with PUMA to release a new capsule collection inspired by Cao Fei’s 2017 BMW M6 GT3 Art Car. The collection translates the digital strokes and curves of Fei’s design into wearable streetwear, bridging the worlds of high-performance motorsport and fashion.
Artist Statement
Cao Fei commented on the adaptation of her Art Car into clothing:
“Moving it from the racetrack into everyday life is the most vivid realization of its core idea. It’s no longer an unreachable art car, it becomes a skin, intimately connected to the body and daily life.”
She describes the Art Car as a fusion of virtual and real, existing equally in physical form, digital space, and social discourse.
BMW M Festival Celebration
The capsule launch was celebrated at the BMW M Festival in Chengdu, China, hosted at Tianfu International Circuit. Highlights included:
- Go-Kart Challenges & Pop-Ups: Guests explored interactive installations across the circuit.
- Artist Talk & Signing: Cao Fei discussed her inspiration, creative process, and signed garments and posters.
- Track Experience: Attendees tested BMW M2 and M3 models while wearing the collection, bringing the fluorescent pink racing-inspired garments to life under the bright track lights.
The collaboration captures the spirit of speed, data, and sensory experience, turning an iconic art car into a wearable piece of contemporary culture.
