The new drop top grand tourer signals a major move by BYD into global premium electric performance.
European Ambitions for a New Flagship Convertible
Denza, BYD’s premium automotive division, has introduced the Z Convertible at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show. Positioned as a production ready electric grand tourer, the model is being developed with global markets in mind, with Europe as a primary early target.
Designed by former Audi design chief Wolfgang Egger, the convertible focuses on a refined luxury identity rather than exaggerated styling. It features a fabric roof, a 2 plus 2 seating layout, and a clean aerodynamic profile that emphasizes elegance and proportion. The exterior is highlighted by a distinctive Fiorentine green finish paired with a bold interior color theme that reinforces its high end positioning.
Over 1000 Horsepower and Advanced Electric Architecture
At the core of the Denza Z Convertible is a tri motor all wheel drive setup delivering over 1000 horsepower. This powertrain enables extreme acceleration, reaching 100 km per hour in under two seconds.
The system is paired with BYD’s Blade 2 battery platform, designed for both performance and fast charging capability. The vehicle also supports next generation charging speeds of up to 1500 kilowatts, allowing it to reach 80 percent charge in approximately nine minutes under ideal conditions. This level of speed positions it among the most advanced electric charging systems announced to date.
Technology Focused Chassis and Intelligent Control Systems
The convertible integrates a range of advanced driving technologies aimed at precision and stability. It uses steer by wire technology to improve responsiveness and incorporates the DiSus M intelligent suspension system, which adjusts damping in real time based on road conditions detected by onboard sensors.
Together, these systems are designed to keep the vehicle composed under high performance driving while maintaining comfort for everyday use. Following its debut in China, the Denza Z Convertible is expected to make appearances at international events, including the Goodwood Festival of Speed, as BYD continues expanding its presence in the global luxury performance market.
