The new model signals a return to classic BMW performance values through a modern electric lens.
A Return to BMW’s Sedan DNA
BMW has unveiled its all new i3 in Munich, reintroducing the model as a sporty, driver focused sedan. Built under the brand’s Neue Klasse design language, the i3 marks a shift back toward the compact, performance oriented identity that defined earlier 3 Series models.
The exterior embraces a clean two and a half box silhouette, balancing proportions between the hood, cabin and trunk. Signature elements like the reworked kidney grille and slim vertical headlights give the car a sharp, modern presence while maintaining a connection to BMW’s heritage.
Performance Meets Electric Innovation
As an all electric model, the new i3 delivers 463 horsepower and 476 pound feet of torque through a dual motor all wheel drive setup. This performance aligns with BMW’s long standing focus on driving dynamics, now translated into an electrified format.
Handling is further enhanced by features like the available adaptive suspension, allowing drivers to adjust ride characteristics depending on preference. Subtle design choices, including short front overhangs and slightly flared rear fenders, reinforce both agility and stance.
Interior Focused on the Driver Experience
Inside, the i3 continues BMW’s tradition of driver centric design. The cabin features a panoramic iDrive system and a floating central display, while key information is projected through a head up display to keep the driver’s attention on the road.
Notably, this Neue Klasse design will extend beyond the electric model. BMW confirmed that the same design language will be shared across future 3 Series variants, including gas powered versions, signaling a unified direction for the brand’s next generation of sedans.
Production of the new BMW i3 is set to begin later this year.
