BEAMS Plus and RRL Bring WWII Denim Back to Life

denim

An archival capsule that treats history not as nostalgia, but as a working blueprint.

A Shared Respect for American Workwear

BEAMS Plus and RRL come together over a mutual obsession with classic American menswear, reviving two denim silhouettes shaped by necessity during World War II. Drawing directly from 1944 era originals, the collaboration reflects a time when material rationing forced designers to prioritize function, restraint and durability above all else.

Inside the 1944 Model Capsule

The capsule centers on a Type 1 denim jacket and a pair of 1944 vintage five pocket jeans, both rendered in unwashed indigo and produced in the United States. Authentic details define the release. The jacket features period correct T back construction, laurel engraved buttons and a needle style cinch back, while the jeans showcase painted arcuate stitching and mismatched surplus pocket fabric, mirroring wartime shortages.

Each piece carries a special label reading EXCLUSIVE LIMITED PRODUCTION FOR BEAMS PLUS, underscoring the archival intent and limited nature of the drop.

Release Details and Context

Priced at ¥148,500 for the Type 1 Jacket and ¥90,200 for the jeans, the collection launches February 7 exclusively through BEAMS Plus locations and the BEAMS online store. The release arrives amid a broader resurgence of high end archival denim, as brands continue to look to historical models and Japanese retail partners to elevate denim beyond its casual roots.
