Remembering a Beloved Co-Star
Barbra Streisand shared a heartfelt tribute to Robert Redford after news of his death at his Utah home on September 16. Posting a black-and-white photo from their time filming The Way We Were in 1973, she recalled, “Every day on the set was exciting, intense and pure joy. Bob was charismatic, intelligent, intense, always interesting — and one of the finest actors ever.”
A Timeless Onscreen Partnership
The Way We Were remains one of the most iconic films for both stars, with Streisand playing Katie Morosky and Redford as Hubbell Gardiner. Their chemistry brought the romance to life, and Streisand’s performance of the film’s theme song earned an Academy Award for best original song. She later reflected in her memoir that their rapport was undeniable, something audiences could sense and connect to.
A Legacy Beyond the Screen
Redford’s career spanned decades, with landmark roles in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and All the President’s Men, as well as directing achievements such as Ordinary People, which earned him an Oscar. Beyond Hollywood, he was a passionate environmentalist and the founder of the Sundance Institute. He is survived by his wife, Sibylle Szaggars, daughters Shauna and Amy, and seven grandchildren.
