Aston Martin Valen: 150 Hand-Built V12s for the Purist Market

Aston Martin Valen

Aston’s Q Division debuts a front-engine supercar at Monterey that rejects hybrid trends.

Aston Martin’s bespoke Q Division and Special Vehicle Operations unit just unveiled the Valen at Monterey Car Week, a limited production supercar built around a principle that feels almost retro in 2024: a naturally aspirated V12 engine mounted up front. Only 150 examples will be hand-assembled, making this a hard close on an era of conventional sports car engineering before the full electric shift arrives.

The move is deliberate positioning by Aston. While the broader industry chases electrification and mid-engine layouts, the Valen targets collectors and drivers who still believe in analog feedback and traditional architecture. The front-engine, rear-wheel-drive setup harks back to how supercars were built before the modern orthodoxy took hold. This isn’t nostalgia marketing; it’s a calculated bet that there’s enough demand among high-net-worth enthusiasts to justify a limited run of bespoke, expensive machines.

Q Division, Aston’s in-house customization and special projects arm, has become the brand’s laboratory for low-volume, high-specification work. By channeling the Valen through this unit rather than mainline production, Aston signals exclusivity and craftsmanship over volume. The 150-unit cap ensures scarcity; at that production scale, each car benefits from bespoke attention and the kind of build quality that justifies the inevitable six-figure price tag. It’s a familiar playbook for luxury car makers, but the timing, releasing a combustion-only supercar in a world rapidly moving away from them, makes it a statement piece.
