Anish Kapoor and Arata Isozaki’s Inflatable Ark Nova Returns to Switzerland

kapoor

The Lucerne Festival welcomes back the sculptural concert hall for eleven days of music and art.

A Symbol of Resilience

First unveiled in 2013 after the Fukushima earthquake, Ark Nova was created as a beacon of hope and renewal. The inflatable structure combines Kapoor’s fascination with void and form with Isozaki’s visionary approach to architecture, resulting in a roving pavilion that bridges art and utility.

An Immersive Experience

Stretching 36 meters long and 18 meters high, Ark Nova accommodates up to 500 people. The PVC membrane creates both a sculptural presence and rich acoustic environment, making each concert inside the pavilion a sensory experience.

Festival Highlights

For the 2025 Lucerne Festival, Ark Nova hosts a diverse lineup of classical, jazz, and folk performances. Beyond the concerts, visitors can join guided tours of the structure and explore a special exhibition at the Hans Erni Museum, featuring models, sketches, and archival materials that trace the project’s development.
