From buzzy debuts to long-awaited returns, this September’s New York Fashion Week is shaping up to be one of the most dynamic in recent memory.
A slightly later start, but a lot to look forward to
The official calendar for New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2026 is here, and the season is already being dubbed the “season of the reboot.” With legacy designers stepping into new houses across Europe, New York’s own lineup is balancing familiar favorites with major debuts and returns.
This year’s shows will kick off a little later than usual—meaning fashion week regulars might actually get a real Labor Day break. Brandon Maxwell will open things up off-calendar with a special 10th anniversary show on Tuesday, September 9. Then, the official schedule begins with Michael Kors on Thursday, September 11 at 11am—cue the angel number memes.
Big debuts and designer switch-ups
There’s a lot of fresh creative energy on the calendar. Nicholas Aburn, a former Balenciaga couture designer, will present his first collection as the new creative lead at Area on Friday, September 12. That same day, Veronica Leoni and Frances Howie will show their second collections for Calvin Klein Collection and Fforme, respectively.
Ib Kamara brings Off-White back to New York that evening, and the night closes with Alexander Wang making his return—just as cult label SC103 makes its official NYFW debut.
The return of familiar faces
Plenty of NYFW regulars are also back. Amy Smilovic’s Tibi returns on Saturday, Jason Wu is back on Sunday, and Toteme takes Monday morning. New names to keep an eye on include Maria McManus, Amir Taghi (formerly of Oscar de la Renta), and Zane Li, who will debut his label Lii on the runway.
Sunday night will feature a fashion-meets-event experience from Colm Dillane of KidSuper, who usually shows in Paris but is switching things up this season.
Spotlight on emerging designers
NYFW continues to highlight the next generation of American designers. Dynasty and Soull Ogun of L’Enchanteur, winners of the 2024 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, will stage their first runway show. Other finalists showing include Bernard James, Don’t Let Disco, Gabe Gordon, Heirlome, Jamie Okuma, Ashlyn by Ashlynn Park, Bach Mai, and Meruert Tolegen.
Notably missing from the lineup: Julian Louie of Aubero (who just showed in Paris), and Peter Do.
Who’s in and who’s out
As always, the calendar has its stalwarts. Altuzarra, Eckhaus Latta, Khaite, Coach, Tory Burch, Diotima, Luar, Collina Strada, and Zankov are all locked in. But some major names are sitting this one out. Ralph Lauren hasn’t announced plans yet. Proenza Schouler is absent as the brand figures out its next steps following its founders’ move to Loewe. Carolina Herrera’s Wes Gordon will show in Madrid. Thom Browne, who closed NYFW last season, will instead show in Paris this year.
The bottom line
Whether it’s a debut, a comeback, or a reinvention, NYFW SS26 is stacked with potential storylines. Between designer shifts, first-time shows, and legacy brands finding new rhythm, September in New York is shaping up to be anything but predictable.
