The electric vehicle becomes a creative canvas through collaborations with Hajime Sorayama and Matt Copson.
AFEELA 1 Meets Art and Innovation
Sony Honda Mobility has revealed two new art car interpretations of its AFEELA 1 electric vehicle, bringing contemporary art into conversation with automotive design. As the brand prepares for the model’s upcoming launch, these collaborations highlight the creative and interactive potential of the EV platform.
With a starting price of 89,900 USD, the AFEELA 1 is positioned as both a technological product and a cultural statement. The art car projects aim to generate excitement by exploring how design, light and material can reshape the perception of a modern vehicle.
Hajime Sorayama’s Chrome Futurism in Tokyo
The first collaboration features Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama, known for his futuristic and hyper polished aesthetic. Presented at a museum exhibition in Tokyo, his version of the AFEELA 1 transforms the vehicle into a reflective, chrome covered object that emphasizes light and transparency.
The design includes deep tinted windows, gray toned tires and subtle blue lighting accents. A moiré effect appears on the wheels, adding a shifting visual quality that changes depending on perspective. Alongside the vehicle, Sony Honda Mobility released a limited edition silkscreen T shirt to mark the collaboration.
Matt Copson’s Reflective Vision at Frieze
A second AFEELA 1 art car was created in collaboration with artist and director Matt Copson, debuting at Frieze Los Angeles. This version takes a different approach, using reflective materials similar to those found in safety signage.
The surface gives the car a glowing, almost surreal appearance, resembling strands of illuminated material wrapped across the body. The project was accompanied by limited edition tote bags and will continue its run with an appearance at Frieze New York in May.
Through these collaborations, Sony Honda Mobility positions the AFEELA 1 not only as an electric vehicle but also as a platform for artistic experimentation, bridging the worlds of technology, design and contemporary art.
