The fashion house signals a decisive ethical shift after sustained pressure from animal rights advocates.
A Policy Change Made Official
Rick Owens has confirmed that animal fur will no longer appear in any future collections or products. The decision was formally announced on December fifteen and published on the brand’s official Eco Aware page, where Owenscorp stated that it has reduced and ultimately ceased fur production over the past decade and will not return to it. The move was immediately reflected across the brand’s digital storefronts, with fur items removed upon the announcement.
Protests That Sparked Action
The announcement followed a five day protest campaign led by the Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade. Beginning on December ten, the demonstrations targeted the brand due to its long standing association with animal fur in apparel and footwear. Activists staged actions at key Rick Owens locations, including retail stores in Los Angeles and New York City, as well as the London venue hosting the Rust Never Sleeps furniture exhibition.
A Broader Industry Shift
Rick Owens now joins a growing list of fashion institutions moving toward fur free policies. The decision aligns with recent industry wide changes, including major publishing and fashion organizations publicly rejecting fur use. Together, these moves reflect a broader recalibration within fashion, where ethical sourcing and accountability are increasingly shaping how luxury brands define their future.
