The classic colorway returns as a tribute to Kobe Bryant’s legendary high school career.
A Tribute to Kobe Bryant’s High School Legacy
Before becoming an NBA icon, Kobe Bryant built his reputation as a rising basketball star at Lower Merion High School in Pennsylvania. Nike is honoring those early years with the return of the Kobe 5 Protro “Lower Merion Aces Away,” a sneaker that originally debuted in 2010.
The design draws inspiration from the school’s away basketball uniforms, using a Metallic Silver, Team Red and White color palette that reflects the Lower Merion Aces identity. The release celebrates the beginning of Bryant’s journey long before his championships, historic scoring performances and global influence as the Black Mamba.
Classic Colors With Signature Details
The sneaker features a lightweight synthetic upper covered in a shimmering Metallic Silver finish. Team Red accents appear along the Nike Swoosh, heel counter and the Sheath logo on the tongue, creating a bold contrast against the silver base.
White details appear on the laces and midsole, balancing the design and tying the color palette together. The most meaningful element remains the Lower Merion Aces logo placed on the heel, reinforcing the connection between the sneaker and Bryant’s high school roots.
Updated Performance for Today’s Game
While the colorway stays faithful to the original release, the Protro version introduces modern performance upgrades. The sneaker includes an improved Zoom Air cushioning setup and enhanced traction designed to meet the demands of today’s fast paced game.
The Kobe 5 Protro “Lower Merion Aces Away” combines nostalgic storytelling with updated performance technology. The sneaker is scheduled to release on March 23, 2026 through Nike SNKRS and select retailers worldwide.
