The iconic air cooled Porsche event made its debut in Japan with a one of a kind setting.
A Historic First in Tokyo
Luftgekühlt 2026 marked a major milestone as the celebrated Porsche event arrived in Tokyo for the first time. Known for its carefully curated locations, the event transformed a stretch of the KK Line Expressway into a gathering space for classic air cooled Porsche vehicles.
The expressway, located near Ginza, provided a dramatic backdrop with sweeping curves, towering city views and even moments where the Shinkansen train passed nearby. Hundreds of cars from private collectors lined the road, drawing large crowds of enthusiasts eager to experience the rare setting.
A Unique Venue With Cultural Significance
The KK Line itself added another layer of meaning to the event. Recently decommissioned after more than six decades of service, the roadway is set to be redeveloped into a public pedestrian space similar to New York’s High Line.
Before its transformation, Luftgekühlt used the space to create a surreal experience where visitors could walk among classic Porsche models on a former active highway. The setting reflected the event’s signature approach of blending automotive culture with thoughtfully chosen environments.
Rare Cars and Exclusive Collaborations
Alongside an extensive lineup of classic Porsche 911 models, several rare race cars stood out during the event. Highlights included the ISEKI 956, Tetsu Ikuzawa’s Porsche 910 race car and Advan liveried Porsche 962 C LM models that attracted significant attention.
The event also featured exclusive merchandise collaborations available only to attendees. A limited long sleeve collaboration with NEIGHBORHOOD drew long lines, while special badges from Leen Customs and Type 7 became highly sought after collectibles.
With its Tokyo debut complete, Luftgekühlt continues to expand its global presence. The next event, Air Water, is scheduled to take place in Costa Mesa, California on April 25, bringing together both air cooled and water cooled Porsche models.
