Lapstone & Hammer teams up with ASICS to deliver the GEL Kayano 12.1 “The Spark,” a release rooted in the idea that every creative journey begins with a single moment of ignition. The Philadelphia based retailer reworks the retro silhouette into something more symbolic, using design to represent the energy behind new ideas.
Rather than leaning purely on aesthetics, the sneaker tells a story about beginnings, momentum, and transformation.
Material Depth Brings the Story to Life
The upper is constructed with a layered mix of textures, starting with an open diamond knit mesh base. Metallic silver overlays create a flint like effect, while premium leather and suede elements add contrast and structure throughout the build.
Signature details are reimagined with asymmetry, as the iconic side stripes shift between hairy suede and smooth finishes. A cotton duck canvas tongue adds another unexpected layer, reinforcing the tactile nature of the design.
Red Accents Signal the Spark
The theme fully comes together through bold red hits placed across the sneaker. Found on the GEL midsole, heel branding, and lace tips, these accents are designed to represent the early stages of a spark turning into something greater.
The lace tips in particular reference unlit matches, a subtle detail that ties back to the central concept of ignition. Available now, the release stands as both a wearable piece of design and a reminder of where every idea begins.
