A vibrant nod to ‘90s music culture through a new silhouette.
A 12th Chapter in the Partnership
Joe Freshgoods is back with his 12th New Balance collaboration, this time spotlighting the emerging 1890 model. Known for storytelling through color and cultural references, the Chicago designer continues that approach here, building the project around the energy and visuals of 1990s rap and R&B.
Inspired by Iconic Music Video Aesthetics
The two-pack includes “Finger Waves” and “Naughty Things,” each pulling from the bold styling seen in classic videos from artists like Missy Elliott, Janet Jackson and Busta Rhymes. “Finger Waves” leans into cooler purple tones with glossy black overlays, while “Naughty Things” goes brighter with fiery reds, oranges and yellows, finished with sharp contrast details.
Retro Tech Meets a Modern Shape
Both pairs are built on the 1890’s sculpted runner design, combining retro influence with a more contemporary form. ABZORB cushioning keeps things performance-ready, while special packaging and subtle co-branding tie the project back to Joe Freshgoods’ signature attention to detail. A release date hasn’t been confirmed yet, but the drop is expected soon.
