Emily Adams Bode Aujla brings her nostalgic and craft driven world to a quiet corner of Tokyo.
A Thoughtful Expansion Into Japan
Bode has officially opened its first standalone flagship in Tokyo, marking a significant step in the New York label’s global growth. Rather than choosing high traffic districts like Shibuya or Aoyama, the brand settled in Yoyogi Uehara, a calm residential neighborhood known for its artisanal shops and community focused atmosphere. The decision reflects Bode’s emphasis on intimacy, storytelling, and a slower pace of discovery.
A Store Designed as a Lived In Space
The interior was developed in collaboration with Green River Project, the design studio co founded by Aaron Aujla and Ben Bloomstein. Blending American Shaker inspired warmth with subtle local references, the space features custom woodwork, carefully sourced antique furniture, and a welcoming domestic feel. Like Bode’s New York and Los Angeles locations, the Tokyo flagship is designed to feel less like a traditional luxury boutique and more like a personal environment that encourages visitors to engage with the garments and their histories.
A Community Hub for Craft and Storytelling
Japan has long been one of Bode’s most dedicated markets, with consumers embracing the brand’s approach to upcycling and its elevation of traditional crafts such as quilting and mending. The new Yoyogi Uehara store will carry full seasonal collections alongside exclusive offerings, serving not only as a retail destination but as a permanent space for cultural exchange and appreciation of handmade artistry.
